Description

A delicious baked French toast casserole made with brioche or challah bread, perfect for a brunch or special occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional add-ins: fresh berries, sliced bananas, chopped pecans, mini chocolate chips, orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cube the bread into bite-size pieces and spread them in a 9 by 13 baking dish.
  3. In a big bowl, combine the eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt to make the custard.
  4. Pour the custard over the bread, then gently press the cubes down.
  5. Chill for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best.
  6. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until puffed and golden.
  7. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, mix in some fresh berries or mini chocolate chips.
