Description

A delicious and easy taco filling made with ground turkey and homemade taco seasoning.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey (see notes)
  • ½ small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning
  • ⅔ cup water
  • ½ cup salsa
  • 8 (6-inch) corn or flour tortillas
  • 1½ cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • ½ cup finely shredded cheddar cheese (Monterey Jack or Mexican blend)
  • guacamole (optional)
  • sour cream (optional)
  • chopped tomatoes (optional)
  • chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground turkey breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. When it is about halfway browned, add the onion and continue cooking until the turkey is browned and the onion is soft.
  3. Remove any excess grease and reduce the heat to low. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute while stirring.
  4. Add the taco seasoning, water, and salsa, and bring it to a gentle boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Divide evenly into tortillas or taco shells and top with shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, and any other toppings.
